Kia Fortson is a single mother of one son from Baltimore, Maryland. She became a writer ate age eight, writing raps; her first piece was published in Notre Dame of Maryland's Damozel literary magazine, Spring 2013. She is a graduate of Coppin State University '16 and the University of Baltimore '22. Her independent Publishing Company, Black Girl Magic Publishing was launched in 2022 via the release of her first book if I must be honest.
